Investment Dictionary - Inflation

Most people think that inflation is a simple rise in prices. The technical definition is an increase in the volume of money and credit relative to available goods, which results in a substantial and continuing rise in the general price level. The rate of inflation is measured by the month-to-month percentage change of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
