Investment Dictionary - Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)
A deposit certificate usually issued by a trust company or other financial institution and covering a specific period. An interest-paying investment in which the investor commits for a certain period of time for a specified rate of interest. This period of time is commonly anywhere from 30 days up to 5 years.
