Investment Dictionary - Dollar-cost averaging

An effective mutual fund investment strategy comprised of regular, usually monthly, deposits. This strategy allows you to average out the acquisition costs of shares in your fund, due to regular, fluctuating share prices. This method is useful as you will purchase less units of the fund at higher prices, and more at lower prices so that your average buy in price will usually be lower.
